Pattaya is the Thailand beach holiday that never sits still: golden Gulf sands and island boat trips by day, then a city full of rooftop bars, night markets and neon once the sun goes down.

Highlights of your Holidays to Pattaya

  • Beach-meets-city – One of the few spots where you can spend the morning on the sand and the evening somewhere that feels like a proper night out in a capital.

  • Walking Street – Pattaya's legendary after-dark strip, packed end to end with clubs, live-music bars, cabaret and street eats.

  • Big-hitter attractions – The Sanctuary of Truth, Nong Nooch Tropical Garden and Ramayana Waterpark are all genuinely worth the trip.

  • Golf central – One of Asia's densest clusters of championship courses sits right on the doorstep.

  • Island day trips – Speedboats run out to Koh Larn and the Coral Islands for clear water and snorkelling, all within easy reach of the beach.

  • Properly good value – Once you're there, food, drink, taxis and massages cost a fraction of what you'd pay around the Med.

Good to Know - Pattaya Holidays

  • ☀️ Weather – Hot and tropical all year, sitting around 26–29°C. November to February is the driest, sunniest stretch; the May–October monsoon brings short heavy downpours that usually clear as fast as they arrive.

  • 💶 Money – The currency is the Thai Baht. A plate of street food runs around £2 / €2.50, a sit-down meal £6–£10 / €7–€12, and a big bottle of local beer £2–£3 / €2.50–€3.50.

  • 🏯 Fun Fact – The Sanctuary of Truth is the tallest wooden building in the world at over 100 metres, and it's held together entirely with carved joints and wooden pegs, not a single metal nail or screw.

What are the best beaches in Pattaya?

  • Pattaya Beach - duh. No prizes for guessing why we picked this one. This is the liveliest beach in the area, packed with watersports and beach bars serving up all the Thai classics

  • Jomtien Beach - this place still offers watersports and waterfront dining spots (seafood-lovers, this is your place), but the overall atmosphere is much more chilled, with palm trees towering overhead for 10/10 tropical vibes

  • Cosy Beach - clue's in the name with this one. It's small, it's cute and it's a total vibe if you're looking for a hidden gem with bars and restaurants dotted about. It's a great shout for the kiddos, too.

  • Naklua Beach - if touristy spots aren't your bag, this beach is the perfect escape. It's more popular with locals (especially the local fishermen) than tourists, and it's more about the classic sand and sea combo than activities and watersports

  • Wong Amat Beach - this one's a tourist's fave but for the opposite reasons to what you'd think. It's actually known for being quiet and calm, so it's a great option if you'd rather stay clear of the hustle and bustle and the buzzing bars

Local Lingo

Thai is the official language, and while English is widely spoken around the resort, a few words go a long way. One quirk to know: Thai sentences are softened with a politeness particle on the end, khrap if you're male and ka if you're female. Pop it after any of these and you'll get a warm smile back.

  • Sawasdee, sah-wah-DEE (สวัสดี), Hello

  • Khop khun, kop-KOON (ขอบคุณ), Thank you

  • Chai / Mai, CHAI / MAI (ใช่ / ไม่), Yes / No

  • Tao rai, tao-RYE (เท่าไหร่), How much is it?

  • Aroy, ah-ROY (อร่อย), Delicious

Pattaya Holidays 2026/2027 - Travel Guide

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families

  • Spend a day at Ramayana Waterpark, one of the biggest in Thailand, with 21 slides, two splash zones and a lazy river that'll keep all ages happy.

  • Wander Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, a huge landscaped botanical park (the largest in Southeast Asia) with sculpted mazes, a vast palm collection and roaming peacocks, deer and goats.

  • Get hands-on at Art in Paradise, a 3D illusion museum where the whole point is to climb into the murals and take daft photos.

  • Take the family out to Koh Larn (Coral Island) on a short speedboat hop for clear, shallow water and easy snorkelling.

💑 Couples

  • Visit the Sanctuary of Truth, an extraordinary all-wood temple-palace on the seafront covered in hand-carved detail, best in the late afternoon light.

  • Hike up to the Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai) on the hill above the bay for a golden Buddha, free entry and one of the best views over Pattaya. Cover shoulders and knees out of respect.

  • Catch the bay at golden hour from the Pattaya Viewpoint (Khao Pattaya), the classic sweeping photo of the whole curve of coast.

  • Book a couples' Thai massage or a beachfront seafood dinner at the quieter Naklua end for a slower evening.

🎉 Groups

  • Take on Walking Street after dark, the main strip of clubs, live-music bars and cabaret that's built for a big night out.

  • Hire a speedboat for an island day, hopping between Koh Larn and the smaller Coral Islands with stops to swim and snorkel.

  • Do the around-the-world-in-minutes thing at Mini Siam, a miniature park of global landmarks that's more fun than it has any right to be with a group.

Pattaya's got that whole tropical climate thing going on, and it's a total vibe if you like the heat. Seriously, thermals and chunky knits have no place here. May to October is when monsoon season pays its dues, so you might want to avoid that if you don't fancy Mother Nature raining on your parasol. Don't worry, though - the rest of the year stays dry with milder temperatures towards the end of the year, and the hottest vibes at the start of the year up until monsoon season, with temperatures hotter than a spicy salsa 🌶️

FAQs

What currency do they use in Pattaya?

The local currency in Pattaya is the Thai Baht, and there are about 44 Thai Baht for every pound, so don't be alarmed if you see some price tags floating around during your travels for thousands of Bahts. It's not as spenny as it sounds!

What language do they speak in Pattaya?

Thai is the official language spoken in Pattaya, but it's said that English is the 'unofficial' second language - so don't worry too much about brushing up on your Thai before your trip. Although, it never hurts, so here's a (very) mini lesson from yours truly:

First thing's first - there's a little rule when it comes to speaking Thai, where if you're male you end sentences with khrup or krap (don't comment), and if you're female you end sentences with ka or kap.

That being said, here are a few phrases to get you started:

Sawadee khrup/ka - hello

Chai (khrup/ka) - yes

Mai (khrup/ka) - no

Khop khun (khrup/ka) - thank you

How long does it take to fly to Pattaya?

It takes around 13 hours to fly directly to Pattaya from the UK, but don't worry your little compression socks - long-haul flights are always decked out with all the bells and whistles, from in-flight entertainment so you can binge your favourite shows, to all the food and drink so you can step off with a full tum.

You'll usually fly to Bangkok Airport to get to Pattaya, which is a 1-hour and 30-minute transfer ride away. But hey, that's only half the time it'd take to watch Oppenheimer from start to finish!

What's the time difference between the UK and Pattaya?

The local time in Pattaya is 6 hours ahead of the UK, so if you've got any questions about the near future, hit them up, 'cause they've seen it. Just kidding. Apparently it doesn't work like that.

Is Pattaya good for families?

More than you'd expect from its party reputation. The southern beaches around Jomtien are calm and shallow, the big resorts have their own waterparks and kids' clubs, and attractions like Ramayana Waterpark, Nong Nooch and Art in Paradise are genuine family days out. Base yourself in Jomtien or Wong Amat and you'll barely notice the late-night side of town.

When is the best time to visit Pattaya?

November to February is the most popular stretch: dry, sunny and warm without being sticky, which is why it's peak season. March to May is hotter and quieter, and the June to October monsoon is the greenest and best value, with warm days broken up by short, sharp downpours. There's good beach weather to be had all year.

What is the food like in Pattaya?

Fantastic, and cheap. As an old fishing town, Pattaya does seafood brilliantly, alongside Thai street-food staples like pad thai, moo ping (sweet grilled pork skewers), som tam (papaya salad) and khao gaeng (rice and curry). The night markets and the seafood spots along Jomtien are the easy wins, and the Four Regions Floating Market is worth a visit for the setting as much as the food.

What's the deal with the cabaret shows?

Pattaya is famous for its lavish ladyboy cabaret shows, and they're a mainstream, family-friendly night out here, not a fringe thing. The big production venues run dazzling, feather-and-sequins stage spectaculars that pull in coach-loads of all ages, and they're one of the most-booked evening activities in the resort.
