Holidays from Shannon Airport

House full of kids this summer? Oh dear!

Take the family and get out of here

On the beach does the trick,

With just a couple of clicks,

You’re by the pool with a view, and a beer.

Limerick famously gave the world one of the most enduring poetic forms, but hasn’t given many of its inhabitants suntans. For those of you who want a bit more sun in your summer, we specialise in whisking you away. We’re whisk analysts (sorry). We will take you from Limerick, or the midwest of Ireland, to sunny spots all over the south of Europe.

Why choose Shannon Airport

If you live west of the M50, Shannon saves you the cross-country slog to Dublin. It's 15 minutes from Limerick, an hour from Galway, and reachable from most of the midwest. The airport itself is compact enough that you can go from car park to departure gate without breaking a sweat (or missing your gate because you got lost near WHSmith).

Shannon was the first airport in the world to open a duty-free shop, back in 1947. That means you can buy a litre of Absolut and keep a historical tradition alive at the same time.

It was also a critical refuelling stop for transatlantic flights before modern aircraft could make the crossing in one go, which is why it still has a US preclearance facility, meaning passengers flying to America clear customs before they board. For the rest of us heading south to the sunshine, it just means a relaxed, no-nonsense start to the holiday. So grab your passport, and your sunnies, and let’s get beachy.

Where can I fly from Shannon Airport?

Shannon punches well above its weight for a regional airport. Ryanair operates 30 routes from here in summer 2026 (their biggest ever Shannon schedule), with direct flights fanning out across southern Europe and beyond. Aer Lingus connects Shannon to London Heathrow and runs an expanded transatlantic service to Boston and New York. Discover Airlines adds a Frankfurt link from spring 2026.

For package holidays, the headline destinations on direct routes include:

Ryanair also flies to Budapest, Kraków, Wrocław, Warsaw, Poznań, and Edinburgh for city breaks, plus Manchester, London Stansted, and other UK & Ireland connections.

When you book with us, we search across all of these airlines to find the best flight-and-hotel package for your dates and destination so you get the best of all worlds with just one click (may actually require a few clicks).

Holidays with the family

If you are looking for a family-friendly resort, we have bucketloads of options for you. Whether you want to take the family somewhere quiet with a private pool, or are looking for a buzzing resort with lots of entertainment and activities, we make finding the trip you need, easier than getting your kid to sleep!

Holidays with your partner

Are you planning a romantic getaway? Do you want to get away from it all with a quiet villa in a sleepy town? Or are you looking for a boutique hotel in the heart of a city? Do you want culture? Views? Restaurants with good reviews? Whatever you’re into, we take care of the whole package, so booking your trip with us is easier than deciding what to watch on Netflix.

Holidays with your mates

Are you planning a legendary trip away with your bezzies? A happening hen do? A seriously silly stag do? Or are you just taking time to celebrate the one relationship in your life that you know will never involve an argument about laundry? Whatever your reasons, whatever the size of your party, we can make sure everyone gets booked on the same flights (but making sure they all actually get on the flights is very much down to you.)

Shannon Airport information

Shannon Airport (SNN) sits about 24 km west of Limerick city, just off the N19. Ennis is about 16 km to the north.

Getting there: Bus Eireann route 51 connects Limerick to the airport, and there's a mix of short-stay and long-stay car parks on site. If you're coming from further afield, the airport is well signposted from the M18 (Galway direction) and the N18/M20 (Limerick/Cork direction).

If you have time on the day, you can always stop for a bite to eat in Shannon town before driving onto the airport. Shannon itself is a small, but charming, little town built to serve the airport. It’s only a ten-minute drive to the airport from anywhere in the town, so you could always eat at one of the delicious cafes or bars in town before heading to security. Tea and Tones does a cracking breakfast, and Durty Nelly's (technically in Bunratty, just up the road) is one of the most famous pubs in Ireland.

Inside the airport: Shannon is compact, which is a polite way of saying you won't be doing 10,000 steps between check-in and your gate but you can enjoy facilities such as…

  • Shopping: Shannon has the world's first duty-free airport shop, which today offers a range of duty-free products with a focus on Irish produce. The airport also has a WH-Smith, for all your adaptors, suncream and holiday thrillers.

  • Lounges: For our customers who like the rarefied air of an airport lounge, the Boru Longue has a range of drinks, snacks, and newspapers available.

  • Free Wi-Fi: Shannon airport offers free Wi-Fi throughout, so you can check your work emails one final time before turning on your Out-Of-Office.
