Cork is the second most popular airport in Ireland, serving millions of passengers a year. It’s only got one terminal, and one runway, which means it’s a bit more relaxed than Dublin, and passengers are usually able to make their way around it more quickly. But please don’t get carried away and end up having to dash through the airport at the last minute like Luke from our content team - a more experienced airport sprinter than we’d like him to be.

Cork Airport Information

Cork Airport is only 8km south of the city centre, so if you’re getting an afternoon flight, you can enjoy some smoked ribs and a weiss beer at Elbow Lane in the city centre (they are excellent ribs - thank us later), call a taxi as you’re finishing your food and, on a good day, be sitting in the departure gate less than an hour later.

There are also frequent buses from the city centre, the bus station and the railway station, look out for the 225 or the 226.

Also, look out for the (relative) cheer and charm of the staff. We’re not sure whether it’s the high stakes of looking out for illicit cargo, getting bored of telling people to put their liquids in their carry-on, or just the jealousy of seeing so many other people go on their holibobs every day, but Airport staff are not, in general, known for their generous hospitality. That said, the staff at Cork Airport are some of the friendliest we’ve ever met, and we’ve seen more than our fair share of airports.

• Shopping: Two WH-Smiths supply all your holiday novels, mains adaptors and travel pillow needs, and if Haribo happen to be on two for one, well, then it would be churlish to refuse. The duty-free stocks an excellent selection of perfumes, beauty products, and spirits, including some fantastic Irish whiskeys. Slainte.

• Cafes, Bars & Restaurants: A modest choice of refreshments awaits you once you’re through security, but whatever time you get there, there will always be something nourishing available. Many of the dishes at Craft Lane, the main bar at the departures gate, are made with locally sourced ingredients and can all be washed down with a pint of craft beer. Hop forward into your holiday.

• Lounges: Cork Airport has one terminal, one runway, one lounge and one vision. Who needs anything more? For our customers who like a Longue, the Aspire Longue has a range of complimentary drinks, snacks, and Irish culinary delights such as white pudding if you’re there in time for breakfast!

• Free Wi-Fi: Cork Airport offers free Wi-Fi throughout, so you can download a range of in-flight entertainment (or update the kids' apps), not to mention set your out-of-office. Just try not to sound too smug!
