El Gouna
El Gouna transports you to another world - not merely the Egypt we all know and love, with camels, palms and ancient cursed artefacts - but rather a surprisingly beautiful, boujee, resort, catering to everyone from families to divers and windsurfers.
This gorgeous little town sits just 20km north of Hurghada and was basically built from scratch in 1990 by billionaire Samih Sawiris - the bloke literally carved his own bit of paradise out of the desert! It's spread across 20 islands surrounded by lagoons with 10 kilometres of stunning coastline, so you're basically getting Venice vibes but with way better weather and brilliant diving.
Built different
The whole place was designed to look like traditional Egyptian countryside and Nubian villages, so it's got this proper, authentic feel, but with all the modern luxuries you could want. The clever bit is that it's all owned by one company, which means everything works together perfectly and there's this consistent, upmarket atmosphere throughout the whole town. No tacky tourist tat here - just pure class!
Something for everyone
Don't worry if you think it might be too stuffy - there are 17 different hotels here, each with their own vibe. You've got everything from high-end luxury spots to places that attract young Europeans here for the mental kitesurfing conditions. And here's the brilliant bit - no matter where you stay, you can use all of El Gouna's facilities, and there's even a "Dine Around" program where you can have dinner at other hotels' restaurants. Proper smart that!
The place is famous for its restaurants, bars, and the Abu Tig Marina area, which has got this brilliant buzzing atmosphere. Plus, it's only 25km from Hurghada, so it's dead easy to get to. Basically, if you want to feel like you're staying in a billionaire's private playground (because you literally are!), El Gouna's the one! 🏝️✨
