Corralejo
Where Sand Dunes Meet Sangria Dreams
Corralejo knows how to have a good time! This is where you come when you want your beach holiday to come with a proper dose of fun, fantastic restaurants, brilliant nightlife, and some of the most jaw-dropping beaches you'll ever set eyes on. Plus, it's got that perfect holiday town vibe where you can stumble from beach to bar to restaurant without ever needing to work out complicated bus timetables or wonder if your taxi driver's taking the scenic route!
The town itself is absolutely buzzing with life - think narrow cobbled streets lined with bars and restaurants, a lovely harbour where you can watch the fishing boats come in with their daily catch, and enough shops to satisfy even the most dedicated holiday shopper. But the real showstopper is what lies just outside town - the Corralejo Natural Park with its absolutely mind-blowing sand dunes that look like they've been transported straight from the Sahara Desert and plonked down next to some of the bluest water you've ever seen!
Beaches That'll Make You Cancel Your Return Flight
Let's talk about these beaches because they're genuinely world-class! The Grandes Playas (which literally means "big beaches") stretch for about 10 kilometres of pure, white sand perfection. We're talking about beaches so stunning that your holiday photos will look like they've been professionally touched up, even if you took them on your phone while slightly tipsy on holiday cocktails.
The main town beach is lovely and convenient - perfect for when you can't be bothered to venture far from your hotel or when you want to pop back for lunch without it turning into a major expedition. But if you fancy something more spectacular, just head south to the natural park, where you'll find endless stretches of sand with hardly anyone on them. The contrast between the white sand, turquoise water, and volcanic landscapes is absolutely stunning - it's like trying Neopolitan ice cream for the first time!
The water's brilliant for swimming (once you get used to the Atlantic being a bit more lively than a hotel pool), and the wind conditions make this one of Europe's top destinations for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Don't worry if you've never tried either - there are loads of schools here that specialize in teaching beginners how to stay upright on a board without looking like they're trying to perform some sort of interpretive dance!
Nightlife That Lives Up to the Hype
When the sun goes down, Corralejo comes into its own! The main strip along the seafront is lined with bars, pubs, and restaurants that cater to every taste and energy level. Fancy a quiet pint while watching the sunset? Sorted. Want to dance badly to cheesy music until your feet hurt? Doubly sorted.
Some of the standout spots include Rock Island Bar for live music and a proper party atmosphere, and Waikiki Beach Bar which does exactly what it says on the tin - beachfront cocktails with sand between your toes. For something a bit more sophisticated, head to La Marquesina for excellent cocktails and harbour views or Awakening for craft beers and that trendy industrial vibe that makes you feel cooler than the North Sea.
Food You'll Dream Of All The Way Home
The restaurant scene here is fantastic! You've got brilliant fresh seafood (the fish was literally swimming this morning), excellent international cuisine, and enough variety to keep even the pickiest eaters happy. La Scarpetta di Venere serves incredible Italian food that'll transport you straight to the Amalfi Coast, while Restaurante La Marquesina does fantastic local seafood with harbour views that make everything taste even better.
For something special, book a table at La Bodega de Janubio - their wine selection is incredible, and the tapas will make you understand why Spanish food has such a good reputation. And if you're feeling fancy, El Toro goes all out with steaks that are so good you'll question every piece of beef you've ever eaten before!
Day Trip Central
One of Corralejo's biggest advantages is its location - you're perfectly positioned for some brilliant day trips! The ferry to Lanzarote runs several times a day (only 15 minutes!), so you can easily explore a completely different island and be back in time for dinner. The tiny island of Lobos is just a short boat ride away and offers incredible hiking, snorkelling, and those "edge of the world" vibes that make for perfect Instagram content.
If you fancy staying on Fuerteventura, the drive south to the Jandía Peninsula takes you through some absolutely stunning volcanic landscapes, and you can explore traditional villages like Betancuria, where time seems to have stopped sometime in the 18th century (in a good way, obviously - they've still got Wi-Fi and decent coffee!).

Corralejo enjoys year-round sunshine and very little rainfall. Average daytime temperatures tend to stay above 25°C during the peak months of July and August, while cooler weather and fewer visitors can be expected if you’re travelling outside of peak time. Calm north-easterly winds blow all year round, so you’ll receive a welcome breeze whatever time you visit. Take particular care during peak season, though, as the breeze can disguise the strength of the sun.
