Overview

COMO Cocoa Island is an intimate, private island retreat nestled among the sandy atolls of South Malé in the Maldives. The feeling here is one of peaceful seclusion. Situated on Makunufushi , the island resort is ringed by chalk-white beaches, turquoise waters, and three impressive house reefs. It is a place dedicated not just to beautiful surroundings but also to meaningful wellness through the COMO Shambhala Retreat.

Location

The island, known locally as Makunufushi , sits in the South Malé Atoll, Republic of Maldives. The journey to this tranquil spot is a simple one: it is only a 40-minute speedboat transfer south from Malé International Airport.

Dining and Drinking

The resort’s main restaurant, Ufaa, offers a memorable experience for every meal. The menu features modern interpretations of International and Mediterranean cuisine, with a keen focus on local produce like seafood. For those who prefer a gentler approach to food, COMO Shambhala Kitchen options are available at the restaurant and through in-room dining. This healthful cuisine is rich in living enzymes, vitamins, and minerals, often including raw food menu items and predominantly vegetarian selections. Ufaa is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For a more relaxed setting, Faru Bar is an easy-going, foot-in-the-sand spot, serving refreshing cocktails, fine wines, and light snacks, perfect for watching the sunset. The bar is open from 10:00 AM until late. In-room dining is also available between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM.

Activities and Wellness

The COMO Shambhala Retreat provides deep-level wellness, offering healing traditions from Asia and natural therapies. The retreat includes three double and one single massage pavilions, each with an outdoor shower or tub in the garden, alongside a gym, an open-air yoga pavilion with an ocean view, and a hydrotherapy pool. Complimentary classes are offered six days a week, including pranayama, yoga, meditation, fitness, and Pilates. The resort also features a 25-metre infinity-edge swimming pool. For marine lovers, the Marine Sports Centre provides access to the house reefs and some of the world's best dive sites. Activities include snorkelling , catamaran sailing , windsurfing , and kayaking. Excursions allow you to enjoy snorkelling trips , a sunset cruise to spot dolphins and flying fish , or a private picnic on the COMO Cocoa Island sandbank.

Rooms

The accommodation is designed to feel as if you are floating on the ocean, with overwater villas shaped like traditional Maldivian 'dhoni' fishing boats. The eight Dhoni Water Villas (75 sq m) are split-level, offering a generous living room and a private terrace with a staircase directly into the lagoon. The nine Dhoni Loft Water Villas (110 sq m) are similar, but feature a master bedroom on the mezzanine level. Loft Water Villas (123 sq m) provide floor-to-ceiling windows, an elevated loft with a king-sized en suite master bedroom, and a secluded outdoor rain shower with steps directly into the ocean. For more space, the four One-Bedroom Water Villas with Pool (125 sq m) sit on a secluded jetty and include a new private pool and a balcony with a daybed. The large two-bedroom COMO Sunrise Villa (300 sq m) has two separate wings connected by the living and dining areas, with a new private pool and balconies for direct lagoon access. Finally, the spacious three-bedroom COMO Sunset Villa (590 sq m) features two villas connected by a wooden walkway, offering two infinity pools, a gym, a nanny's room, and spectacular sunset views.
