Spent two weeks in September at Ostria Agia Prevaskvi  Skiathos. The accomodation was fantastic. It was refrubish3d after last years flood.  Staff very friendly and helpful. Sophia and her family are lovely people and we can't wait to come back next year.

Ostria

Over many years wife Susie and I have spent countless happy days and nights at the beautiful Hotel Ostria in Agia Paraskevi. We have spent so many wonderful holidays in Skiathos and Hotel Ostria  that we now refer to it as “The Ostria, our second home”. 

The hotel is owned and managed on a daily basis by a long-standing Skiathan family, the Mathinos - mom and dad Litsa and Makis respectively, together with their two beautiful daughters Sofia and Anna. 

These lovely, lovely people run the hotel along the lines of the Greek tradition of ξενία (Xenia), an ancient concept of hospitality, a sort of kindness to strangers. This manifests itself through their outstanding personal service, their kindness and generosity coupled with a genuine desire to make every person’s stay a memorable experience. The family motto, even if they never express it in so many words is that each and every person arrives as a guest but leaves as a friend.  It is something that stuck with us from our very first stay and continues on every visit since, whereby the Mathinos are now our very special friends. 

We are not the only ones to have found this little piece of Greek heaven, as we often see familiar faces during our September visits, guests who return in successive years to enjoy the peace and tranquillity offered by The Ostria.   

The service, kindness and respect that the family extends to their guests filters down to every level of their staff - the breakfast crew, the ladies who look after rooms to the highest standard of cleanliness & attention to detail. And the gardening team who maintain immaculately manicured  spacious grounds where guests can relax in the Skiathos sunshine whilst watching Swallowtail butterflies, Humming Bird Hawk Moths and Red-rumped Swallows feeding around the garden and the pool.  

The Ostria sits at Bus Stop 16, the entrance to the Platanias Valley, a beautiful, calm, traditional piece of Skiathos that many visitors miss when they simply chase the sunshine of the island’s many beaches.  Following a leisurely Ostria breakfast we always take a final cup of English tea to sit outside the breakfast room, watch the rising sun in the east as it ignites for the day ahead and to listen to the silence in the valley beyond - a wondrous start to another Skiathos day. 

The valley does sometimes create problems. On at least two occasions, and following typically blazing hot summers, the ensuing storms flooded the Ostria and many other types of accommodation. This last happened as recently as September 2023 when all of the Ostria’s lower rooms were severely flooded with rooms destroyed by many inches if not feet of water. Not for the first time, a long winter of hard work and great expense followed to restore and refurbish to the high standards of before.  

The family bounced back as they always do, an example to us all.

Needless to say, and upon our last day, we have booked for 2025. Plus an extra few days!

This is the most perfect place to relax , unwind and forget about your troubles, The hotel is in a beautiful setting with panoramic views and within walking distance from the lovely beach. The family who own and run this Hotel are amazing , very friendly and go over and above to make your holiday as perfect as it can be. Nothing is too much trouble for them. All the staff are extremely friendly and again nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are modern and spacious .  We have  been going here for over 15 years hence why the above is a true reflection of a most wonderful place.

Hidden Gem

We have been coming to Skiathos 21 years and have stayed at Ostria many times. It is a wonderful family run Apartments where they serve breakfast every day included in the price. Set in the most beautifull gardens with a lovely swimming pool. Very quiet and relaxing with a pool bar which serves snacks and the best cold Mythos.
The rooms are all different  and beautifully decorated and fitted out with balonies looking out to the gardens. It is spotlessly clean and the staff are all friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. Needless to say we are booked to return next year
