Quarteira's shopping scene is more about local character than designer brands. The daily fish and produce market near the harbour is the star — twin blue tile-decorated buildings selling the morning's catch and fresh local fruit and veg. Every Wednesday, a large gypsy market sets up on the edge of town with clothes, crafts, leather goods, souvenirs and food at bargain prices (haggling encouraged). Along the promenade you'll find a scattering of boutiques, craft shops and beach supply stores. For bigger shopping, Vilamoura and Albufeira are both a short drive away.
Praia de Quarteira is a 2km stretch of golden sand running the full length of the town, divided into sections by stone jetties. Behind it, the palm-lined Avenida Infante de Sagres promenade is one of the nicest stretches of seafront in the central Algarve — wide, flat and dotted with restaurants, bars, playgrounds and fitness stations. The beach is Blue Flag certified with lifeguards in summer, and the water is generally calm. In peak season (especially August, when Portuguese families descend in numbers), it gets busy — but the eastern end is usually quieter. Walking west from the fishing harbour, you'll reach Praia de Vilamoura and eventually the marina.
