Climate Overview

Poland’s climate covers the full range, from icy winters to genuinely warm summers. The year starts off on the chilly side, but by late spring and summer, you’ll find sun-soaked afternoons and plenty of daylight for exploring the Baltic coast. Weather-wise, it’s a country of contrasts, so timing your jollies here makes all the difference.

If you’re eyeing up the coast, the Baltic Sea region is where most of the beach action happens. Inland, temperatures tend to be a touch higher in summer and winters can feel brisker. Don’t expect any tropical islands here, but the coastal resorts like Sopot and Gdansk have their own relaxed vibe once the sunshine shows up.

Seasons Overview

Spring (March - May): Spring in Poland is when things start to pick up. March is still cool at 7°C, but by May, temperatures jump to 18°C and the days stretch out with up to 8 hours of sunshine. The sea stays chilly, but the countryside wakes up, and the coast gets livelier - just pack a jumper for the evenings.

Summer (June - August): Summer is the sweet spot for a beach holiday. June to August brings daytime highs of up to 24°C, with sea temperatures reaching 19°C in August. There’s a fair bit of rain, especially in July and August (70mm each), but 8 hours of sun a day means plenty of time on the sand between showers.

Autumn (September - November): Autumn cools off gently, with September still hanging onto 19°C and sea temps at 16°C. By November, air temperatures dip to 7°C and the sun becomes a rare sight. It’s a quieter time on the coast, but early autumn can still deliver mild weather before the winter chill sets in.

Winter (December - February): Polish winters are definitely for the cold-weather fans. December to February means air temperatures hovering between 2 and 3°C, the sea is even chillier, and sunshine is in very short supply - just 1-3 hours a day. Not the time for holibobs on the beach, unless you’re keen on icy strolls.

Best Time To Visit

For a proper beach holiday in Poland, aim for June to August. This is when you’ll get the warmest air, peaking at 24°C, and the sea finally makes a decent attempt at being swimmable at 18-19°C. You’ll see 8 hours of sunshine a day, so you can really make the most of the Baltic coast. Early September can also work if you like things a bit quieter, but the sea cools quickly. If you want winter sun, you’ll need to look elsewhere - Poland’s winters are more snow boots than flip-flops.
