Zadar is pretty much in the middle of the country, just north of Split, right at the north end of the Dalmatian coast, and just below the Istrian Riviera.

Alfred Hitchcock wasn't talking nonsense when he called Zadar's sunsets "the world's best" back in 1964 - they're genuinely mind-blowing! The whole waterfront comes alive at dusk when the sky blazes pink, red, and orange over the Adriatic. But here's the mental bit - you can actually listen to the sea while you watch! The famous Sea Organ uses wave power to create hauntingly beautiful music through underwater pipes. It's one of only two in the world, and hearing those ethereal chimes while watching the sunset is pure magic.

Roman ruins meet modern art

Zadar's Old Town is absolutely incredible - imagine 2,000-year-old Roman Forum ruins right next to buzzing cafes where locals sip coffee under ancient bell towers. The whole place is a living museum where you can explore medieval churches, Venetian city walls, and Renaissance palaces, then discover modern art installations like the Sun Salutation - a massive solar-powered light display that creates dreamy night shows mimicking starlight.

Perfect base for adventures

When you're not wandering the cobblestone streets, you're perfectly positioned for some of Croatia's most spectacular natural adventures. Plitvice Lakes with its crystal-clear lagoons is easily accessible, while the Kornati Islands offer 89 bleached limestone islands scattered across steel-blue seas. Plus, the nearby Velebit mountains provide incredible hiking and climbing opportunities, and you can easily day trip to other popular destinations along the coast. 🌅🎵
