Flight time - Around 9 to 10 hours from major UK & Ireland airports, flying into Gregorio Luperon International Airport (POP) in Puerto Plata.
Airport transfer - Rio San Juan is roughly 1.5 to 2 hours east of Puerto Plata airport along the north coast road.
Time difference - Four hours behind GMT year-round (no daylight saving).
Currency - Dominican Peso (DOP). US dollars accepted at tourist spots but less widely than in resort areas. Bring cash for local restaurants and boat tours.
Passport and visa - UK & Ireland passport holders do not need a visa for stays up to 30 days. Passports must be valid for at least six months. A tourist card is included in your airline ticket cost.
