Costa Teguise

The Family-Friendly Water Sports Paradise

This purpose-built destination was designed from the ground up to be the perfect family holiday spot, and honestly, they absolutely nailed it! If you're travelling with kids, love water sports, or just prefer your holidays to come with a bit more organisation, then Costa Teguise is going to be your new favourite place on earth.

Built in the 1970s, Costa Teguise feels more like a well-designed town than a typical resort. The streets are wide, everything's clearly signposted, and you can actually walk everywhere without feeling like you need a degree in orienteering. Plus, it's got this lovely residential vibe that makes you feel like you're staying in a Spanish coastal town.

Beaches for Every Mood and Energy Level

The beaches here are absolutely brilliant, each with its own personality and purpose. Playa de las Cucharas is the star of the show - a gorgeous stretch of golden sand that's become legendary in windsurfing and kitesurfing circles. The wind conditions here are so consistently perfect that international competitions are held here regularly. Don't worry if you've never stood on a board in your life - there are loads of schools offering lessons, and the instructors are used to dealing with people who think "starboard" is something you eat at Christmas!

For families with little ones, Playa del Ancla (also called Playa de los Charcos) is absolutely perfect. It's in a lovely sheltered bay with really shallow water that stays warm all day - ideal for kids who want to splash about without their parents having heart attacks every five minutes. The beach has proper facilities, including beach bars where you can grab a cold drink while keeping one eye on the kids building their 47th sandcastle of the day.

If you fancy something a bit more adventurous, the rocky coastlines around Costa Teguise are brilliant for snorkelling and exploring. The volcanic rock formations create loads of little pools and coves where you can discover all sorts of marine life - just watch out for the sea urchins, they're not as cuddly as they look!

A Paradise for Water Sports Enthusiasts

If you love anything that involves getting wet and having fun, Costa Teguise is basically your spiritual home! The wind and wave conditions here are absolutely perfect for windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing, and just about any other water sport you can think of. The local schools are fantastic and cater to everyone from complete beginners ("which end of the board goes in the water?") to advanced riders looking to perfect their latest tricks.

The diving here is spectacular too. The volcanic underwater landscape is unlike anywhere else in Europe, with incredible rock formations, caves, and marine life that'll have you planning your next trip before you've even finished this one. The water's crystal clear year-round, and the local dive centres know all the best spots - including some secret locations they probably shouldn't tell tourists about but absolutely will if you ask nicely!

Family Fun Without the Chaos

Costa Teguise was clearly designed by someone who understands what families need on holiday. The resort is compact enough that kids can't disappear for hours (though they'll still try), but spacious enough that you don't feel like you're on top of each other 24/7. There are loads of parks and green spaces where kids can run off their energy, plus a brilliant promenade that's perfect for evening strolls or early morning jogs (if you're one of those annoying people who exercise on holiday - good for you!)

The Aquapark Costa Teguise is brilliant for families - it's got everything from gentle slides for little ones to proper adrenaline-pumping rides for teenagers and adults who refuse to act their age. The lazy river is perfect for floating about while the kids exhaust themselves on the more energetic attractions.

Shopping-wise, there's the Centro Comercial Las Cucharas, which has everything you might need without being overwhelming. It's got supermarkets for those essential holiday supplies (factor 50 and wine, obviously), plus shops selling beachwear, souvenirs, and all those things you forgot to pack.

Gateway to Lanzarote's Natural Wonders

One of Costa Teguise's biggest advantages is its location - you're perfectly positioned to explore some of Lanzarote's most incredible attractions without having to drive for hours. The famous Jameos del Agua is literally just down the road - these volcanic caves transformed by César Manrique into an otherworldly concert hall and restaurant. The underground lake with its blind albino crabs sounds weird, but is actually magical (and a bit weird).

The Cueva de los Verdes is another must-see nearby - it's a lava tube that stretches for kilometres underground, and the guided tours are fascinating (plus it's lovely and cool, which is brilliant on those really hot days when even the beach feels too warm).

The Cactus Garden in nearby Guatiza is superb - thousands of cacti arranged in a volcanic crater that somehow manages to be both artistic and educational. You'll find yourself taking photos of plants you never knew existed.

Pining for Dining

If your holidays are all about the food (let's be honest, it's the best bit of most days), Costa Teguise won't disappoint. You've got brilliant local restaurants serving fresh fish and traditional Canarian dishes, international options for when you fancy something different, and yes, plenty of family-friendly places that won't bankrupt you or judge you when your toddler inevitably has a meltdown over the colour of their plate.
